Photo-editing

I use Photoshop extensively for all my photos. Normally I will do whatever I think appropriate but I explain my Photoshop workflow below, so you may have a better understanding of the sorts of things I do, should you wish to request a particular treatment.

My Photoshop work falls broadly into the following categories:

1) Correction
2) Enhancement
3) Presentation

CORRECTION
I shoot in RAW format and use Photoshop to correct for sensor and lens induced anomalies and then go on to control any noise in the shadows and correct for exposure, white balance and contrast.

ENHANCEMENT
I will then seek to improve reality, so to speak. This can be as minor as removing hairs from a dinner jacket, or spots (though not moles) on a subject's face. One girl was so delighted we were able to remove her spot, she requested if we could place it on the face of one of the boys in the same shoot (very tempting!).

But enhancements can be more substantial, like adding a smooth glow to a subjects complexion, tidying hair or even re-modelling a body or face.

Busy and unflattering backgrounds can be tidied, blurred, replaced or removed.

PRESENTATION
Once the image is corrected and enhanced there are many different ways to present the resulting image.

I include examples of some of the options below, together with their names so you can request them:

Photo-Merge

Using several photographs merged together to create one.

Tryptich

Using three related photos, or cut out crops from a larger photo and put into the three or more windows. This can create quite a strong effect with photos that on their own may not be strong enough for display.

Muted Colours

One step short of going to full black and white is to leave only the faintest hint of colour.

Tryptich with large border and Monogram

As a normal tryptich but set high with some writing underneath. This can look quite artistic for a wall hanging.

Colour on Monochrome

Most of the photo in black and white, but part of it requiring attention is in colour. This is very good at letting something small be very noticeable.

Vignette

The centre of the photo is feathered into either a blackend or whitened border. This can add romance or drama to a photo.

Montage

Often events have so much happening that it is difficult to sum them up in a single photo. This is where I find the Montage particularly helpful. I take a selection of the shots from the day that I think have impact, show something about the day, and work well with the others I have chosen to form a single photo that can be printed off as a 10x8 (for example) and be a great record of the day.

TESTIMONIALS

"Thank you for all your hard work, it is appreciated, and I have placed an order this evening."
